The past couple days have been interesting. A total shift from being selfish to caring for another life, dog parks, trying to finish this new album with collaberators, dj gigs, KCRW pledge drives and trying to take in as much sun as possible. Welcome to my life all summed up in jpegs.

LATIDO AT CANA RUM BAR

LATIDO AT CANA RUM BAR

One of those night’s where the dancer’s come early and make the dj work twice as heard! I love it! Big love to all the friends who came out to Latido’s second night at the amazing Cana Rum Bar in DTLA! It was great to see so many familiar faces as well as meet some awesome listeners of KCRW.
The rain gods blessed us and went to lunch while we danced the night away inside this hidden gem.

JESSIE WARE | LIVE AT AMOEBA

JESSIE WARE | LIVE AT AMOEBA

It was a great way to cap up a gorgeous day in LA. Since her show at the El Rey was sold out I knew my last hope would be the free in store at Amoeba. Jessie did about 4-5 songs and thankfully all the ones I loved! Her album “Devotion” has been on repeat for the past couple months including selections off her EP. But it was the Disclosure remix of Runnin that hold me sold on Ms. Ware!

CANA RUM BAR, LATIDO RECAP, CAT LADY AND TACO TRUCKS…

I dont think I had this much fun dj’ing for a great bunch of folks in a long time! Cana Rum Bar was full of love last night. I got to meet lots of great KCRW listeners and followers of my blog last night. It’s almost like where these different social worlds of friends and new friends collide. Peep the pics!

TYPESUN “THE PL”

TYPESUN “THE PL”

I got hip to these guys on some nu disco/future boogie compilation and was thrown off a little by this track. Nu disco to some cool mellow soul? But then I had to slap and remind myself that this is 2013. Anything can happen. And that my friends is a beautiful thing. This single just dropped on Itunes alongside a cool remix. Check it out! Watch the video!

THE GOODS RECAP | 11 JAN 2013

THE GOODS RECAP | 11 JAN 2013

Last night was special. I might say that every single week but every time I mean. Our second session of of THE GOODS of 2013 in the books and simply too amazing! So many friends coming out and we made some new friends and welcomed some new family into our weekly get down! I think I was playing Chaka Demus and I looked up and there was Reggae Pops ready give me a big ole hug.

FLYIN CUT SLEEVE

FLYIN CUT SLEEVE

Tonight I watched this informative documentary from early 70s about the Puerto Rican and African American gangs in the Bronx. The film jumps from original footage and clips from 73 to the 90’s where a lot of the actual figures reflect on the political temperature at that time. Watch it now!

TORO Y MOI “ANYTHING IN RETURN”

TORO Y MOI “ANYTHING IN RETURN”

Toro Y Moi returns with a well defined record that focuses on excellent production, synced and crisp drums, buttered up keys, house gems, half time grooves on this new release entitled Anything in Return. The album, which drops January 22nd on Carpark, covers just about every musical genre in the book but with ease and authenticity. Watch a couple videos from the new album here.

I first got hipped to these kids by one of their tracks entitled 5 Days which was on repeat and in rotation during my sets on KCRW. I had no idea where they were from or what they looked like. I could have sworn this must of had been some re edit/remixed vocal from the Al B Sure era of soul and someone decided to slap some cool beats and sounds to accompany the project. I was dead wrong.

SAYERS | 5 JAN 2013

SAYERS | 5 JAN 2013

Saturday nights at Sayers is where folks either end up in the air, thrashing into the drum kit, hanging from some elevated place, on the dance floor, head bobbing on the couch or on the deck. Last night we managed to witness 2 out of the previously mentioned. Derek Taylor and I raged through the soundsystem last night inside one of LA’s mysterious and fun spots hidden on the corner of Hollywood and Wilcox.

NYE RECAP

NYE RECAP

I dont remember much last night but I do remember my midnight mix on KCRW, rocking the party and making an entire room jump up and down and lastly, ending up in a Del Taco drive through at 3 am. The energy at Viceroy was off the meters! At one point the entire room just got out of control and I saw a sea of heads and fists in the air . Peep the pics!

KCRW NYE MIX | DOWNLOAD

It’s the 16 song/15 minute playlist as aired on KCRW this past NYE. I have had a couple of requests in my inbox for a download of the mix. Your wish is my command! If you were not with us at the Viceroy then man you missed a party! But if you were at home listening to these 1/2 time gems then odds are you probably had the cops knocking on your door telling you to turn it down. Download it here!
