KCRW PLAYLIST | 26 MARCH 2013

KCRW PLAYLIST | 26 MARCH 2013

I spent way too much time prepping for this session but it was worth it. Found some last minute finds from Moods out of Amsterdam reworking this beautiful Jamiroquai track. Lips does an awesome job of covering Frank Ocean’s Super Rich Kids and the same can be said for Hyleen Gil and Gotta doing justice to Toto’s Georgy Porgy! Toronoto’s Kaytranada strikes again with with several remixes on this session. Hit play!

ATL TWINS

ATL TWINS

I first got hipped to these kids while picking up a pair of kicks at my local sneaker shop and saw them on the cover of Vice. Lately I’ve been on this total Riff Raff/Worldstar craze and watching all these horrible bad videos of woman, braids, money, guns but awesome 808’s, snares and hooks. Get to know em!

RANDOM | SUNDAY

RANDOM | SUNDAY

As I sit here awaiting tonight’s episode of Walking Dead on AMC I thought I’d post up some snapshots I took today around Venice. Sundays are great days to be pet a pet owner. Spring Break was popping in Venice as folks swarmed the Boardwalk and Abbott Kinney! Hope you dig!

YATHA BHUTA JAZZ COMBO

YATHA BHUTA JAZZ COMBO

I had the chance to hang with these dudes a few weeks back when they were in LA. Onra and Buddy Sativa team up for a full length set to drop on Dublin’s All City. Love it! I got to play a track off this record a few week’s back to wrap up the show and it sat well in the set. Looking forward to playing more. Peep the promo video.

IN CONVERSATION | BONOBO | SXSW 2013

We discuss his first concert and his love for sampling. Catch more cuts from the record tonight for our late night session on the far left of the fm dial or worldwide at kcrw.com.

DEPECHE MODE | SXSW 2013

DEPECHE MODE | SXSW 2013

Sometimes at SXSW you just have to be at the right place at the right time. I found myself in line with some great folks who provided optimism of getting into the free exclusive Depeche Mode show at Brazos Hall in Austin. It was an adventure and somehow I ended up inside no more than 10 feet away from the band! Peep the pics!

SXSW BATCH 1

Just kicked off day 2 at SXSW and have already had several highlights! Watching Anne Litt interview Devendra Banhart at the Convention Center and seeing out of the corner of my eye Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan casually chill with a cup of coffee was one of them! KCRW held two showcases which were amazing! Toro Y Moi absolutely blew my mind away. Peep the pics!

72 HOURS ACROSS LA

72 HOURS ACROSS LA

It’s hard for me to put the camera down. If you follow my blog you might see that. From my work to travels, simple drives across town to just random roaming, I love bringing my Nikon. The past 72 hours have been an example of that. From walking my dog along the boardwalk, Saturday night’s madness at Sayers and a Sunday night adventure in Echo Park. Its all captured below. Hope you dig!

THE GOODS RECAP | 8 MARCH 2013

THE GOODS RECAP | 8 MARCH 2013

It was one of those late night’s where the dj could do no wrong! Nice early crowd moving and shaking. Slowly the room began to fill and by midnight we had the place just where we wanted it!. Great energy all night and managed to play quite a bit of classics. Lots of love to all who came out and waited in line to get in in the cold. We always tell you early arrival is highly suggested.

AIR JORDAN IV RETRO

AIR JORDAN IV RETRO

Nike has been killing it with the selections of colors/infrareds. The Jordans post 200’s have always been a hit a miss with the exception of a few. But these are nice. Excellent color pop! You are looking at $200 a pop for these which drop in October. I’ll be on the hunt!

MEDLINE “EVERYBODY LOVES THE SUNSHINE”

MEDLINE “EVERYBODY LOVES THE SUNSHINE”

Big up Melting Pot Music for passing this my way. I managed to throw some of Medline’s work in my previous KCRW sets. Medline hails from France and puts a b boy touch on soul classics but especially on this latest 7′ inch release “Everybody Loves The Sunshine”. It’s not easy doing justice to the Roy Ayers classic but this brother does it! Watch the video!

MILES BONNY “LIVE ON THE VENICE BOARDWALK”

MILES BONNY “LIVE ON THE VENICE BOARDWALK”

Out last minute/secret show off the Boardwalk in Venice California. Fans were notified 10 minutes before the performance and were given secret wrist bands to enter the must see show of 2013. The band consisted of Miles Bonny on vocals and horn, Nick Rosen on percussion, Anthony Valadez on tambourine and Smedley the Frenchie providing the good energy.
