IN CONVERSATION | KISSEY

I met Kissey a few years back while doing some shows in LA as well as joining me for a Dublab session. Her debut release Plethora release caught the attention of lots of djs at the station and somehow a friendship began to develop. It was nice to reunite and talk about her interesting journey as a young Swedish vocalist who transitioned into a NYC beatmaker dabbling into dance music. Hope you dig this one!

RAJ FESTIVAL 2013

RAJ FESTIVAL 2013

Yes! This is really happening. Im trying to figure out a way to hang for all three days to catch some of these amazing acts on this wonderful piece of land. I’m excited to host and dj the kick off night which features some of my favorites including legends Chaka Khan and Roy Ayers!

FAST FWD | LITTLE TEMPLE | THROWBACK THURSDAY

FAST FWD | LITTLE TEMPLE | THROWBACK THURSDAY

Before going super Hollywood I use to do this party on the corner of Virgil and Santa Monica Blvd on Saturday nights at Little Temple. We called it Fast Fwd because we were always thinking ahead. Well, not really but it just sounded cool. Anywhere from 300-400 plus folks use to swing through on our night that celebrated the LA community.

THE MYSTERY OF FLYING KICKS (SHORT FILM)

THE MYSTERY OF FLYING KICKS (SHORT FILM)

Shofiti? Warnings to cops? Drug houses? Urban decay? Memorials to those lost in the neighborhood? Ive heard it all. Not sure if there is a single solid answer as to why sneakers hang from powerlines but it seems every time I take a stroll around DTLA, Venice or visiting Brooklyn, Paris or the Chi, I have always seen a pair kicks hanging. This great short clip explains the various myths. And it’s well done! Watch!

IN CONVERSATION | DEF SOUND

IN CONVERSATION | DEF SOUND

LA’s Def Sound has always captured my attention with his visuals and songs. His lyrics have always made me press rewind. I was able to feature him on my last album and develop a friendship that has always been filled with great conversations! This time Def swung by for a chat with a very interesting perspective on the internet, unspoken rules of marketing your music and his development through his art.

THE GOODS RECAP | 21 SEPT 2013

THE GOODS RECAP | 21 SEPT 2013

I don’t think I ever played this much old under the radar stuff at The Goods but tonight was an exception. Tribe B sides kept the crowd moving alongside some classics. Scenario was definitely the highlight with the crowd reciting lines as I dropped out the track. Big love to all the friends who made it out tonight! It was another doozie! Peep the pics!

MY PRIVATE NERDCHELLA | THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE IPHONE 5s

MY PRIVATE NERDCHELLA | THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE IPHONE 5s

So after rocking the turntables at the Cana Rum Bar in DTLA I figured I was already up and would swing by the Santa Monica Apple store close to home and check on the line for the new I Phone. I saw about 100 folks already gathering either knocked out, reading, talking or just using local wi fi while waiting for 8 pm to fall upon us. I parked my car and got in line around 3 am.

IN CONVERSATION | TINY HEARTS

I knew Jeedo was in town so I had to grab him and his new project Tiny Hearts for a chat about this brilliant new project featuring Tim K and Dee Dee. One of the magical moments for me to witness was hearing the three vibe off each other while I simply stood back and narrated. There was lots of energy and hearing the three talk about the creation process was informative. Take a listen!

IN CONVERSATION | THURZ

IN CONVERSATION | THURZ

Finally grabbed Thurz aka Thurzday in the lab for a one on one. We discussed the process of the soundtrack of his life which will include his forthcoming project entitled Blood On The Canvas. Thurz first grabbed my attention as 1/2 of U-N-I which captured and reignited the buzz of the LA underground. We also discuss his inspiration for his last album entitled LA Riot. Take a listen!

RANT # 10 | SYRIA

RANT # 10 | SYRIA

You’re dammed if your do and dammed if you don’t! My Grandfather taught me that and never has that phrase been more on my mind then now. Let me start off by saying I am torn on this issue. I understand both perspectives and both sides have valid points. There is no doubt that the US is suffering from war fatigued. Take a listen.

JOY WELLBOY

JOY WELLBOY

This is probably one of the prettiest songs I have heard in a hot minute. Belgium’s Joy Wellboy does an acoustic version of Lay Down Your Blade that gives me the shivers! Beautiful, sonically nice, soothing and everything I look for in a song. The entire album is equally beautiful.

HAYDEN JAMES

HAYDEN JAMES

Yoooooooooooooo! Monday morning digs and came across this new EP via Hayden James on the Future Classic label. Melodic slow sexy disco vibes meets 1/2 time sweet soul with hard snares. My description is giving this EP no justice but just peep the links below for a taste. Im dropping this tonight on my KCRW show!

THE GOODS RECAP | 6 SEPT 2013

THE GOODS RECAP | 6 SEPT 2013

As i set here trying to find the adjectives to describe the energy from this past Friday, I release a long yawn! Ya’ll wore me out! Dance floor got cracking aroiund 10:15. I got a sense the crowd was worn out from Labor Day Weekend so I just played lots of soul classics before getting into a club heavy set then brought it back to the classics. So good to see old friends too! Hope to see you next Friday night at Zanzibar!

LMNO “DYSLEXIC”

LMNO “DYSLEXIC”

LMNO strikes again w/ production assistance from Evidence. Ive always loved LMNO’s flow. I remember being in college and having his albums in rotation. Perfect theme music for a clueless freshman seeking some kind of wisdom in the form of boom bap. Evidence never ceases to amaze me with his production work. And this video!?!?! Super nice and creative.

BOOTLEG SUMMER SEND OFF RECAP

BOOTLEG SUMMER SEND OFF RECAP

Loved them so much I got their cd and played it on last night’s KCRW show. I love this venue! So great to see the Bootleg/Fold folks keep live music going strong in LA. Peep the snapshots. Oh. and my guilty pleasure of Korean BBQ is also added in the snapshots. Sue me.
