Backstory. I normally get into the KCRW basement an hour before MBE when covering for JB. But this morning, I opened my eyes with only 20 minutes to get to the station and be on air. I jumped up with panic, brushed my grill, grabbed some records, my laptop and flew down Pacific to Pico in my Scion. I made it! I was out of breath and not really mentally set and prepared but I was confident. What happened during the next 3 hours was magic. I ended up knocking out one of my favorite all times sets on the show I had grown up listening to as a kid. What folks may not know, MBE is like flying an airplane. You have to prepare to take off, maintain altitude, check distance and calculate your settings and time.
AIR VALA flight 89.9 seemed like a smooth trip.
This was the final Morning Becomes Eclectic set of the year and I wanted to take it out with a bang. Feedback was so strong I had to post it to my mixcloud account in the event it fades from the KCRW archives. Hope you enjoy. It’s always an honor to serve the community with the music I love.
