Hey! Another check in with you. Hope all is well. It’s nice to re-blog and connecting you in a medium that dates back to the days of when I first got involved in this thing we call the “blogosphere”. I had a lunch with an old friend, I, Ced. Ced is someone I admire cause he risked it all to pursue music. There was a point when he was living in his car, chasing his dreams, gigging at night, rehearsals and sessions around the clock. He’s still on the grind.
Today we were talking about knowing your worth. And It takes time to perhaps hit a point where you can realize what you contribute and understanding how that translates into money or time. But since realizing my worth, its been easy to step away from projects and dj residencies. There is a fear for most artists (including myself) that if you step away no one will be around the corner willing to scoop you up. 25 years of countless clubs, parties, various radio gigs on college + public radio, I can say once you make that jump and safely land, its liberation. It’s one of the best feelings.
Ced then flipped it in a way that I never looked at it. He explained how race plays a factor. Ced has personal experiences where certain folks who differ from his color tend to make more money. I’m happy to see him understand his worth, jump ship and see him off to London to work on music this month and not haver to deal with these social complexities.
I wish I could say something magical that would connect with you but the truth is you just have to make it happen. Im still far from my goals but I know my worth and its liberating. And fun.
This week’s rant is up! I wanted to fall back while my timeline on social media went off on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis winning Best Rap Album. Folks began to go off on the Recording Academy. But are you really shocked? Are you involved? Are you active? Listen to this week’s rant and let me know what you think! Lets create a discussion.
On December 5th we lost one of the most influential figures of our time. I saw the tweets and status updates in regards to the passing of Nelson Mandela but I just felt that being limited to 140 characters could serve his legacy no justice. What could I say or post that could capture my thoughts on such a wonderful life lived?
This rant was inspired by my friend Manal. She and some friends swung by my gig last night at Cana and somehow we got into this deep convo about life, politics and the passing of Mandela. His passing made me examine several things in which I talk about in this rant. First, social media activists versus a man who actually gives 26 years of his life and another being the CELEBRATION of Mandela’s life versus being somber in his passing. 95 years on Earth and being able to sketch your way into the history books for something you believe in is no easy task. He is the prime example of hope and persistance with your message. I hope you dig this rant. It’s been a minute since I recorded one of these but a simple tweet or update could do this extrordinary man’s life.
We had a Breaking Bad Finale Party with friends and we had to do a wrap up! Novena Carmel, Shawniece Swain, Nick Rosen, Kim and I all watched not sure what to expect for the finale! What did you think? And a big thanks to ShawnIece for the amazing Heisentreats! More info on her treats can be found on her twitter at @Luvmuffintreats.
Yoooo! Spoilers are dropped in this rant so if you are not up to date then do not listen! 2 episodes left in this historic series of drug dealing, lies, deception and power shifts. Just when you things can’t any worse for Walter White, BAMM!!!!! Hope you enjoy this rant. Feel free to leave your feedback and comments in the comment section!
You’re dammed if your do and dammed if you don’t! My Grandfather taught me that and never has that phrase been more on my mind then now. Let me start off by saying I am torn on this issue. I understand both perspectives and both sides have valid points. There is no doubt that the US is suffering from war fatigued. I think I’m one of those folks who understands President Obama’s perspective however I still believe that in terms of his “legacy” this does not help it one bit should he make the mistakes that were made by his predecessor. But I do think about the people of Syria and I think at the end of the day we as humans, not Americans, have a moral obligation to help the victims. Again, you’re dammed if your do and dammed if you don’t!
Okay. Your thoughts! And please keep it civil and respectful.

I was asked by Facebook follower Phillip Clark to comment on Forbe’s article regarding EDM’s Cash Kings who brought in millions of dollars of income. There has been lots of criticism towards EDM culture and accusations that point out to just how crazy it is for someone to make 40 plus million dollars by pushing knobs. Well, to be quite blunt, I see no problem with it. Good management, artist draw and excellent brand management all justify the pay. EDM is really huge at the moment. In a perfect world skills and live performance alone would be worth millions but we don’t live in a perfect world. Let me know your thoughts! Follow me on Twitter. And Peep the Forbes article
