The past few week’s have been a cooler coaster. Getting re tweeted and grammes by Rosario Dawson was kind of cool but attending Manifest Justice and hearing Trayvon Martin’s mother speak was tough. Also tough was the vigil for Brendon Glenn who was shot and killed by LAPD. Following all this was our KCRW Pledge drive and hanging out with mother was kind of cool. Hope you dig! Good times w/ the mighty King Most, Max Macveety on drums + the Sayers/SLS Vegas crew last night. I’ll be back on the decks tonight w/ The Sessions. If you are around, come say hi!
Davis Fetter joins me this week for a chat on my podcast. We discuss his obsession with collecting 45’s and conveying his love for music. I first came across his music while opening for him at my Saturday night residency at Sayers and was instantly drawn to his live show. His appreciation for music is evident. Hope you enjoy! LobsterFest, The Goods at Zanzibar, Saturday at Sayers! It’s been a fun and crazy weekend. Jaz and I caught some cool snapshots from Friday but I also snapped took some random snapshots along the way capturing the adventure. Hope you dig!
Saturday nights are kinda hard to put into words. You just have to experience it. Musical wizardry at its best w/ The No Vacancy Orchestra in the house tonight. Ill be warming things up and closing out the night on the turntables. Hope to see you!
Whoop! Hope to see you there LA!
What a weekend! LATIDO at Cana! First Fridays at the Natural History Museum! The Goods at Zanzibar! Sayers! Whooop! Here is a photo recap of what went down. One of the wonderful things I love about deejaying is playing to different crowds and venues. Something new every time. Hope to see you next weekend!
Folks got super wild this past Saturday night. Sometimes Im at a loss of words hence why I just turn on the camera and let it speak for itself.
Sayers knows how to throw a Halloween party! It was madness inside and outside of the venue all night long! It was great to see friends and new friends while playing records and getting the party going! I mean REALLY GOING!! On of my highlights was blending the Michael Myers “Halloween” theme song into Madness’s Ghost Town then perfectly blending into Kanye’s “Mercy”! Huge roar! Thanks to all who came out! Back at Sayers next Saturday!
And another fun rowdy night at Sayers this past Saturday night. Derek Taylor stepped behind the drum kit and got down while I held down the turntables. Great energy, folks and vibe. Hope you dig!
Another fun time w/ Derek Taylor behind the drum kit at Sayers! Peep the footage below!
This past Saturday at Sayers we welcomed back Derek Taylor on the kicks and snares. It was an incredible night over all. So great to see so many friends come out and get down with us in Hollywood. Do not sleep on the magic that takes place every Saturday night on the corner of Wilcox! Enjoy this short clip!
Truly looking forward to wrapping up the Summer at Sayers in Hollywood! This week we welcome Yael on the drum kit. She and I use to play with RES while on tour w/ Talib Kweli and Jean Grae. Im excited to have her on board rocking out while I try out new ideas on the turntables and keeping the energy up! Should be lots of fun! I hope to see you Saturday night! Info below!
A big humble thank you to all the folks who came out to Sayers this past Saturday night! It was huge on so many levels. It was great being with so many friends in the building and I got to see lots of folks who use to come out to our old shindig at Little Temple/The Virgil and when ever I see these folks in the crowd at my current gigs it makes me want to just dj that much harder! It was also great meeting new folks who listen to the radio show. I am thankful to all of you who made it out! You are all AMAZING!!
Okay, back to the show! The madness began during our soundcheck. I was a bit skeptical of playing with a drummer cause I love to hear music the way it was originally recorded. Derek Taylor made it to the venue after recently landing in LA from a show with WallPaper in Canada and laid down the breaks on the drum kit and I just scratched and layered samples on the Midi pad and I cant quite explain how awesome it all came together. Our set began around 12:30 am and man! It was pure energy and madness that ensued at Sayers! I remember wiping my brow of sweat and out of the corner of my eye seeing people on top of furniture, boxes just going buckwild! Sayers was so packed we had overflow of people on the stage. I normally dont talk about gigs (I sometimes just take pics) but this is one of those moments that has been replaying over and over in my head. Hopefully venting this on my blog will make it stop!
Thanks to Itai for capturing this moment in time of epicness!
This past Saturday night Capital Cities played at Sayers with Davis Fetter opening up. What an incredible night for music at this hidden Hollywood gem! I remember hearing about Capital Cities 2 years ago at SXSW and then bam! Here they were knocking out these musical gems. But how about this Sinead O’Connor cover originally written by Prince!? These guys make breaking up sound like fun! Kudos to Capital Cities for this great cover. Saturday night’s are the place at Sayers! Come see why!
